Pixel 9 Pro — 497 ppi, 480 dpi (xxhdpi)

The Pixel 9 Pro is Google's 2024 flagship, and its 1280×2856 panel at 6.3 inches lands almost exactly on the xxhdpi bucket. That is the interesting part: a modern flagship shipping at 1280 px wide rather than 1440 keeps the density high without inflating the pixel count, so the layout stays roomy while the GPU pushes fewer pixels.

Density on the Pixel 9 Pro

The panel's ppi is high enough that Android uses a 3× scale factor. In practice that means a 48 dp touch target becomes 144 physical pixels here, which is why the same dp layout feels identical to a Pixel 8 Pro even though the raw resolutions differ.

What layout it actually gets

Dividing the physical resolution by 3 gives a logical width in the 400 dp range. Google's own layouts target roughly 360–412 dp of width on phones, so the 9 Pro sits at the comfortable top end of that band and can show a little more horizontal content before falling back to a tablet layout.

Practical notes

If you are testing on a 9 Pro and the UI looks too small, do not lower the density — check whether your layout is hardcoding px somewhere. Dropping density below the native bucket is the fastest way to make text render blurry, because the system starts scaling drawables up.
